I see I should have phrased that differently. Perhaps it is better posed as this question: How do you reconcile "Advantage in every way" to "There is no Jew or Greek"? I ask in sincerity.

I think I make some assumptions about Paul's transformation as I read Paul's epistles. For example we see Paul boldly claiming to be as equal to the other apostles, then later confessing that he is the chief of sinners. Based on personal experience, I assume that Paul underwent a tremendous amount of transformation from the days of his early salvation to the days of his imprisonment. Neither you or I are the same men that began this journey so many years back, are we?

I can concede that two seemingly opposing thoughts can indeed be true, because I rely on the simplicity of the bible being the unerring word of God. I simply wanted to hear your thoughts on the matter.

Jeff - but you still have to deal with Romans 3 where Paul says there is much advantage in every way to being a Jew. You can't just ignore it because it doesn't fit neatly into your framework. It's only settled if you're convinced you completely understand all this. I know I don't.

I thought the issue was settled in Galatians 3:26-29 (NKJV)
26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

I also recall a class taught be either you or Pastor Geoff about what it means to be adopted (some 4 years ago) We are not as one on the outside being invited to the family of which we were not originally apart of, but instead, being adopted means more of a "coming of age", or coming into one's inheritance.

If these things are true, I don't see it as necessarily a better thing to be a Jew, but perhaps maybe a burden of greater responsibility.

Wow this really helped me with some things. I've been seeking God in some things and some it seems like I haven't heard him all that much or i just didn't credit what he gave me enough, and this helped me to see this situation maybe is not that big of a priority right now

I have questions stemming from this passage but I know my questions will be answered by your commentary on Romans, chapters 9, 10, and 11.

Good post! Legalism sucks. It's scary how often it can crop up in my life or in other people's lives, even after getting freed up of another "layer." For example, I've learned that it is possible to worship one's identity in Christ.

I am willing to admit that I still struggle at times with legalism. Praise God I'm not like I used to be!!! And I especially praise Him for the teachers He has put in my path to teach me, keep leading me to the Source, and to know life, instead of seeking knowledge.
Thanks, Alan.....keep writing, keep teaching, keep loving Him. You shine!
